Why HPCQC?
Quantum Computing is gaining significant traction as an upcoming technology to help push past the end of Moore’s law and the von Neumann bottleneck, at least for targeted and highly important applications.
At the same time, it has become accepted by the community that quantum computing cannot realize this potential without being integrated with HPC, or more pointedly, without becoming a part of HPC. Only this pairing will enable us to fully harness the power of quantum computation as a powerful accelerator for existing workflows.
This is a young cross-discipline endeavor requiring a strong interdisciplinary engagement from a wide range of fields, including physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and electrical engineering.
Our Community and Mission
This initiative was born out of an ongoing collaboration between Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Danish Technical University (DTU) and the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) as part of their leading roles in several large-scale computing initiatives.
We actively seek and welcome input from all domains beneficial to, and benefitting from, this effort.
Our early-defined goals are to:
- provide a comprehensive collection of related activities, projects and white papers
- help establish the needed community
- drive activity towards cross-projects collaborations
- initiate standardization activities
